Video Poker is a game that essentially combines both luck and skill, with no opponent other than the pay table itself. Invoking the general rules of draw poker, the player sets his wager and is dealt five cards. He now has the opportunity to discard any and all unwanted cards, and have them replaced with the same number of new cards in an effort to achieve the most desirable hand possible. When the finished hand has a value that is listed as a win on the given pay table, the player wins the amount shown, according to his stake.

Video Poker has many variations and as such, the pay tables are also varied to reflect the odds of specific hand results within the game played. The following are winning hand results in descending order from highest (most valuable) for the game of Video Poker:

  • Royal Flush - The highest possible hand in poker, comprised of the 5 highest cards of any same suit (A,K,Q,J,10 of diamonds). Video Poker variations that include a wild card differentiate between the Natural Royal Flush (achieved with no wilds) and Wild Royal Flush on the pay table.

  • Straight Flush - Any 5 cards of the same suit in successive order. ie: ( 8, 9, 10, J, Q of Hearts)

  • Four-of-a-kind - Four cards of equal rank ie: 10 of Hearts, 10 of Spades, 10 of Clubs & 10 of Diamonds

  • Full House - This is a hand made up of 3-of-a-kind (3 cards of equal rank) and a Pair (2 cards of equal rank) ie: 4 of hearts, 4 of diamonds, 4 of clubs, 10 of Spades & 10 of Diamonds
  • Flush - Five cards of the same suit ie: 2 of Hearts, 6 of Hearts, 9 of hearts, Queen of Hearts & Ace of Hearts

  • Straight - Five cards of mixed suits that follow in sequence of rank. ie: 3 of hearts, 4 of diamonds, 5 of clubs, 6 of diamonds, & 7 of spades.

  • 3-of-a-Kind - Three cards of equal rank ie: 3 of clubs, 3 of diamonds, & 3 of spades

  • 2 Pair - two sets of cards that have equal rank (2, 2, 5, 5 of any suit)

  • High Pair - To be considered a high pair, the hand must contain 2 cards of equal value that are also above the rank on the paytable that constitutes a winning hand. ie: If the game is "Jacks or Better" the player would need at least a pair of Jacks in order to win any amount
